Position Summary

The Service Technician (Level I–II) performs installation and maintenance work in communications and industrial environments, with a foundational understanding of DC power systems used across APS’s key markets—Telecom, UPS, and Utility. The role requires frequent travel, including driving, flying, and overnight stays during the week, and the ability to work safely in a variety of environments, including remote, outdoor, and customer-site locations. This is a safety-sensitive position. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Install and maintain DC power systems, including batteries, rectifier plants (all voltages), cable racks, ironwork, power distribution equipment (PBDs, BDFBs, BDCBBs), inverters, converters, and related infrastructure.
  • Perform AC power work ranging from 120V single-phase to 480V three-phase.
  • Run power cables, perform lug crimping and lacing, and take voltage and gravity readings.
  • Operate small hand and power tools, specialized power equipment, and commercial vehicles (vans, box trucks, flatbeds, forklifts, pallet jacks).
  • Maintain clear and positive communication with coworkers, customers, and leadership; work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Travel frequently to APS offices, service locations, and customer sites as required.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Requirements

Minimum Skills & Knowledge

  • General understanding of DC power and lead-acid battery systems.
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings and manuals.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude; good written communication and math skills.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work independently or with a crew.
Driving / Background Requirements
  • Must have a valid driver's license and maintain an acceptable driving record.
  • Must pass annual drug testing (random testing may be required by customers).
  • Must maintain an acceptable background check per company and customer requirements and applicable laws.


Physical Requirements

Physical & Sensory Ability

  • Lift 50 lbs independently and up to 150 lbs with assistance; slide up to 200 lbs.
  • Bend, squat, crawl, kneel, twist, climb, and work in tight spaces.
  • Use hand and power tools; work from ladders, gantries, and catwalks.
  • Work in environments with constant exposure to electricity, frequent exposure to weather, fumes/dust, noise, and chemicals.
  • Frequent walking, standing, stooping, and carrying up to 75+ lbs.
  • Frequent pushing/pulling, grasping/handling, extended reaching, fine manipulation, and use of hand controls.
  • Vision requirements include color, depth, near, and far field.
  • DOT Medical Qualification Card required.

Pre-Employment Requirements

Based on the job description and APS safety-sensitive job standards:

  • Acceptable Driving Record (verified through motor vehicle report).
  • Drug Testing – Must pass pre-employment drug test; subject to annual and/or random testing depending on customer sites.
  • Blood Draw-Required
  • Background Check – Must meet APS and customer background requirements.
  • DOT Medical Qualification Card – Required for safety and commercial vehicle operation.
  • Ability to meet all physical demands outlined in the Physical Requirements section.
