Position Summary

Are you an experienced DC Power Technician ready to use your skills to support critical infrastructure? As a Level 4 Service Technician with American Power Systems, LLC, you will lead complex field installations, manage job-site operations, ensure safety compliance, and provide mentorship to junior technicians. APS serves customers in the Telecom, UPS, and Utility sectors, and this role plays a key part in delivering high-quality DC power solutions across these markets.

This position requires frequent travel (50%) and the ability to work independently, professionally, and safely in a variety of customer environments, including remote, industrial, and outdoor locations. This is a safety-sensitive position.

Key Responsibilities

DC Power System Installations & Maintenance

  • Install batteries and rectifier battery plants across all voltage levels in accordance with industry, customer, and APS standards.
  • Perform ironwork and cable rack installations, including Zone 4 environments.
  • Install, maintain, and troubleshoot DC distribution equipment, including:
  • Power Distribution Boards (PBDs)
  • Battery Distribution Fuse Bays (BDFBs)
  • Battery Disconnect Circuit Breaker Bays (BDCBBs)
  • Inverters and converters
  • Conduct system diagnostics: load tests, voltage and gravity readings, performance troubleshooting, and preventative maintenance.
Upgrades & System Integration
  • Lead DC power plant upgrades and replacements, ensuring seamless transitions with minimal downtime.
  • Prepare jobsite reports, test documentation, and Method of Procedure (MOP) documents.
Cabling & Terminations
  • Run power cables, perform lug crimping and lacing, and ensure strong, compliant electrical connections.
AC Power Operations
  • Safely perform AC power work ranging from 120V single-phase to 480V three-phase.
Supervisory & Leadership Duties
  • Serve as the lead technician on job sites; inspect tools, equipment, and work areas for hazards.
  • Conduct daily pre-job tailgate safety meetings and maintain required documentation.
  • Mentor and train Level 1–2 technicians to build their skills and support developmental growth.
  • Ensure compliance with APS safety policies, customer site requirements, OSHA, NFPA 70E, and applicable regulations.
Customer Service & Communication
  • Act as the primary point of contact for customers regarding scheduling, questions, job progress, and issue resolution.
  • Provide clear, professional communication with supervisors, engineering, supply chain, and team members regarding material needs, work progress, and engineering changes.
  • Support teamwork through strong interpersonal, listening, and conflict-resolution skills.


Requirements

Experience

  • Minimum 4–6 years of experience in DC Power systems (Telecom, UPS, Utility).
  • Demonstrated proficiency in DC power installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and safety protocols.
Skills & Expertise
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and electrical understanding.
  • Solid math skills and ability to interpret technical drawings and manuals.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to operate Office applications and customer-required software.
  • Proven ability to lead teams, mentor junior staff, and manage complex job sites with minimal oversight.
Travel & Availability
  • Ability to travel 50% of the time, including overnight stays and occasional weekend work.
  • Ability to work variable shifts as required by customer needs.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality, exercise sound judgment, and uphold APS’s professional standards.


Physical Requirements

Lift 50 lbs unassisted and up to 150 lbs with assistance; slide up to 200 lbs.

Ability to bend, kneel, crawl, crouch, climb, twist, and work in confined areas.

Ability to climb ladders, gantries, and work at elevated heights.

Comfort working in outdoor, remote, or industrial environments with exposure to:

  • Noise
  • Chemicals
  • Dust/fumes
  • Weather and temperature variations

Use of hand and power tools for extended periods.

Ability to perform repetitive motions such as grasping, reaching, carrying, and fine manipulation.

Adequate vision for color, depth perception, near/far field work.

Pre-Employment Requirements

Based on the job description and APS safety-sensitive job standards:

 

Acceptable Driving Record (verified through motor vehicle report).

Drug Testing – Must pass pre-employment drug test; subject to annual and/or random testing depending on customer sites.

Blood Draw - Required

Background Check – Must meet APS and customer background requirements.

DOT Medical Qualification Card – Required for safety and commercial vehicle operation.

Ability to meet all physical demands outlined in the Physical Requirements section.
